Mosques

GSIC plays a key role in overseeing and monitoring Mosques across The Gambia. The council is responsible for ensuring that the Mosques are run in accordance with Islamic principles and teachings and that the services provided by the Mosques are of a high standard.

The council works closely with the Imams, who are the spiritual leaders of the Mosques, to ensure that the teachings and practices at the Mosques are in line with Islamic teachings. This includes providing guidance and support on matters such as the proper recitation of the Quran, the delivery of sermons and the organization of religious activities.

The council also ensures that the Mosques are maintained to a high standard and that they are safe and comfortable places for worshippers. This includes ensuring that the Mosques are clean and well-maintained and that they have adequate facilities such as toilets and washing facilities.

One of the key responsibilities of the council is to ensure that the Mosques are inclusive, welcoming and safe spaces for all members of the community. This includes ensuring that the Mosques are accessible to people with disabilities and that they are welcoming to people of all backgrounds and cultures.

The GSIC also promotes the Quranic teachings and their implementation in society and encourages Mosques to be a source of guidance and education for the community.
