Zakaat Nisab for 1447 Hijri Year
The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC), through its Fatwa and Moonsighting Committee, wishes to inform the Muslim Ummah that after careful and thorough review of both local and international silver prices, the Nisab (minimum threshold) for Zakaat for the 1447 Hijri year has been officially set at Forty-One Thousand Gambian Dalasi (D41,000).
This means any Muslim who possesses wealth equal to or above this amount for a full lunar year is obliged to pay 2.5% of it as Zakaat, provided the wealth meets the required conditions for Zakaat eligibility.
Zakaat is one of the five pillars of Islam and plays a vital role in purifying wealth, supporting the needy, and fostering social equity and compassion within our communities.
We urge all eligible Muslims to fulfil this important obligation sincerely and promptly. May Allah (SWT) accept our acts of worship, purify our wealth, and grant us barakah in all our affairs.
For any further inquiries or guidance on Zakaat calculation and distribution, please contact the GSIC Secretariat or consult your local imam or Islamic scholar.
Wassalamu Alaikum Warahmatullah Wabarakatuh.
