The QGroup Contributes D1million Towards GSIC Budget

The QGroup, a Gambian-based conglomerate, has made a generous contribution of D1,000,000 to the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC) in support of the council’s mission and activities. The contribution was announced by the Chairman of The QGroup, Mr. Muhammad Jah, at the 3rd edition of the QGroup-sponsored National Quranic Competition on Monday, April 17th, 2023, held at the QCity in Bijilo. The presentation took place at the GSIC headquarters in Kanifing on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023.

The presentation was attended by several high-ranking officials of the council, including the President, Sheikh Essa Foday Darboe, and other dignitaries. The council and The QGroup share a vision of a prosperous and peaceful Gambia, and the mood was celebratory as both parties embraced the prospect of collaboration, which began years back when The QGroup started the National Quranic competition.

During the presentation, Mr. Jah expressed admiration for the GSIC’s contributions to Gambian society, especially in the areas of education and social welfare. He acknowledged that the GSIC is a critical pillar of the community, providing guidance and support to Gambians of all backgrounds.

Mr. Jah emphasized that The QGroup shares the GSIC’s commitment to the development of the Gambia and is proud to contribute to the council’s mission. He stated that the contribution is the beginning of a long-term partnership between The QGroup and the GSIC. He took the opportunity to urge Gambian Muslims to also play a role in supporting the GSIC as the apex institution for Muslims in The Gambia.

Sheikh Essa Foday Darboe, the chairman of the GSIC, expressed gratitude to Mr. Jah and The QGroup for their generosity, noting that the contribution would significantly support the council’s activities. He stressed that the GSIC’s mission is to promote unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence among Gambians, regardless of their religious beliefs. Sheikh Darboe also encouraged Gambians to emulate the good that The QGroup is doing towards Islam in The Gambia under the leadership of Mr. Muhammad Jah.

The GSIC is the highest Islamic authority in the Gambia and plays a vital role in the country’s social, economic, and political spheres. The council has been instrumental in promoting peace, stability and Islamic education, providing social welfare services, and advocating for the rights of Gambian Muslims.
