Report – GSIC Ramadan Food Drive 2026

The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC) is pleased to share the outcomes of its 2026 Ramadan Food Drive, a nationwide humanitarian initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable households during the holy month of Ramadan.

Thanks to the generosity of individuals, institutions, and partners, the programme provided essential food assistance to families facing economic hardship, helping them observe Ramadan with dignity and peace of mind.

Programme Impact

The Ramadan Food Drive was designed to support vulnerable households across the country through the distribution of food packages containing key household staples, including rice, sugar, and cooking oil.

While the programme initially targeted 1,000 households, available resources enabled GSIC to successfully support 560 households, representing 56% of the target reached.

Beneficiaries were reached in all regions of The Gambia, with the following distribution:

  • West Coast Region (WCR) – 23%
  • Upper River Region (URR) – 18%
  • North Bank Region (NBR) – 18%
  • Central River Region (CRR) – 18%
  • Lower River Region (LRR) – 11%
  • Kanifing Municipality (KM) – 9%
  • Banjul – 3%

This nationwide coverage reflects GSIC’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to assistance and reaching vulnerable communities wherever the need exists.

Financial Accountability

As part of our commitment to transparency and responsible stewardship of donor contributions, GSIC is pleased to disclose the programme’s financial performance.

The Ramadan Food Drive mobilised a total of GMD 2,208,265 through contributions from institutions, organisations, and individual donors.

Our Commitment to Donors

GSIC recognises that every contribution entrusted to the Council carries a responsibility to deliver meaningful impact and maintain the highest standards of accountability.

We remain committed to:

  • Transparent reporting on all humanitarian interventions;
  • Responsible and efficient utilisation of donated funds;
  • Equitable beneficiary selection and distribution processes;
  • Continuous monitoring and evaluation of programme outcomes; and
  • Sharing results with stakeholders and the wider public.

Appreciation

The success of this initiative would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors, partners, volunteers, and community leaders.

On behalf of the beneficiaries and the communities served, GSIC extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to this effort. Your support provided relief to hundreds of families and reinforced the values of compassion, solidarity, and service that Ramadan inspires.

Looking Ahead

The demand for humanitarian assistance continues to grow across our communities. While the programme achieved significant results, the needs identified exceeded the resources available. GSIC therefore remains committed to strengthening partnerships and expanding support for future humanitarian and social welfare initiatives.

Together, we can reach more families, create greater impact, and continue building stronger, more resilient communities.
