GSIC Secures Freedom for Five Inmates in Mile 2 Central Prisons
In a remarkable display of compassion and social responsibility, the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC) has successfully orchestrated the release of five Gambian inmates from the confines of Mile 2 Central Prisons in Banjul. The event unfolded this afternoon, marking a moment of hope and transformation for the newly freed individuals.
With the unwavering support of a generous philanthropist, the GSIC mobilized efforts to secure the inmates’ release, epitomizing the council’s commitment to humanitarian initiatives and community welfare. The council’s collaboration with the philanthropist involved the contribution of GMD60,000 to facilitate the inmates’ release, underscoring the GSIC’s dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of individuals within the Gambian community.
At the heart of this endeavour was the recognition that financial constraints often impede the rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals who have served their sentences. Each of the five released inmates received a sum of GMD500 to cover their transportation costs and aid in their transition back into society.
The occasion was held at the Prisons Headquarters and witnessed by key figures from the high echelons of the Prison Management and the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council. The event was marked by a sense of optimism and gratitude as the released inmates expressed their appreciation for the support that would enable them to embark on a new chapter in their lives.
Sheikh Essa Foday Darbo, President of the GSIC, underscored the council’s dedication to promoting rehabilitation and reintegration as essential components of the justice system. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in fostering a supportive environment for individuals seeking to reintegrate into society.
The event’s significance goes beyond the release of the inmates; it serves as a testament to the positive change that can be achieved through collaboration and empathy. The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council’s commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of the less fortunate within the community remains unwavering, demonstrating the council’s role in advocating for justice, compassion, and social responsibility.
As the GSIC continues its efforts to promote community welfare and uplift the lives of individuals in need, the occasion of securing the release of these five inmates serves as a shining example of how collective action can contribute to positive transformation and renewed hope for a better future.
