GSIC’s 5th National Congress Concludes with New Executive Council Elected
The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC) concluded its 5th National Congress with the election of a new Executive Committee, bringing fresh leadership to the forefront of the organization. The newly elected committee members are poised to guide the Islamic community’s initiatives, aspirations, and development efforts over the coming term.
Leading the new Executive Committee is Sh. Essa Foday Darbo, who was elected as the President of the GSIC. With a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to promoting Islamic values, Sh. Darbo is expected to provide visionary leadership for the council during his tenure.
Qadi Omar Secka, renowned for his contributions to Islamic jurisprudence, takes on the role of 1st Vice President, while Sh. Ibrahim Masaneh Jarju assumes the position of 2nd Vice President, bringing a strong foundation in religious scholarship to the leadership team.
Dr. Muhammad Al-Amin Sillah has been chosen as the Secretary-General, responsible for the council’s administrative functions. Assisting him in this role is Sh. Omar Danso, who will serve as the Assistant Secretary General.
The newly elected Executive Committee includes individuals with diverse expertise to drive the GSIC’s agenda forward. Sh. Kemo Fatty will serve as the Deputy Assistant Secretary General (Arabic), while Sh. Hamma Jaiteh will fulfil the same role in the English language.
Ensuring sound financial management, Sh. Ibrahim Jagana will oversee the treasurer’s role, supported by Sh. Dawud Jawo as the Assistant Treasurer. Bai Alieu Jarboh takes on the role of Internal Auditor, with Sh. Ibrahim Hassan Cham as the Assistant Internal Auditor.
The election of the new Executive Committee marks a crucial transition for the GSIC. The Executive Committee’s members are expected to leverage their skills and experiences to advance the council’s initiatives, promote unity, and contribute to the growth and well-being of the Islamic community in The Gambia.
As the GSIC embarks on this new chapter under the leadership of Sh. Essa Foday Darbo, the Islamic community looks forward to witnessing the positive impact of the committee’s collective efforts in promoting religious values, education, and community welfare throughout the nation. The newly elected leaders carry the aspirations of the community, emphasizing unity, collaboration, and the preservation of Islamic principles.
