GSIC Delegation Holds Productive Talks with Directorate of Religious Affairs in Turkey
Strengthening bilateral ties and fostering interfaith dialogue, a delegation from the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC) led by its President, Sheikh Imam Muhammad Lamin Touray, and accompanied by the Presidential Adviser on Religious Matters, Hon. Dembo Bojang, embarked on a significant visit to the Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı) in Turkey.
The visit, aimed at enhancing cooperation and understanding between the two nations, featured fruitful discussions on matters of shared interest, including religious education, cultural exchange, and ways to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
President of the GSIC, Sheikh Imam Muhammad Lamin Touray, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the Turkish hosts and highlighted the importance of collaboration between religious institutions to strengthen the global Islamic community. He stressed the need for unity among Muslims worldwide, particularly in light of the challenges faced by Muslim communities across the globe.
During their meetings with officials from the Directorate of Religious Affairs, the Gambian delegation explored avenues for joint initiatives in education, religious research, and the promotion of Islamic values The discussions revolved around the significance of education in countering extremism and nurturing a generation that upholds the values of peace, compassion, and understanding.
Hon. Dembo Bojang, the Presidential Adviser on Religious Matters, emphasized the Gambia’s commitment to religious harmony and diversity, pointing out that the nation’s engagement with Turkey serves as a stepping stone to learn from each other’s experiences and work together to address common challenges.
The Director of Religious Affairs in Turkey expressed enthusiasm for collaboration and commended the GSIC’s efforts in promoting dialogue and understanding among different religious communities. He highlighted the Directorate’s commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to a more harmonious world and encouraged continued exchange between the two nations.
As the meetings concluded, both sides expressed optimism about the potential outcomes of their collaboration.
